Panama can expect generally typical rainy-season conditions on Wednesday, with isolated morning showers followed by thunderstorms across parts of both slopes during the afternoon and evening.
The Instituto de Meteorología e Hidrología de Panamá said the atmosphere remains conditionally unstable because of the monsoon trough south of Central America and low-pressure systems over the Caribbean.
The Caribbean slope should remain partly cloudy during the morning, without significant rainfall. Intermittent rain, isolated downpours and thunderstorms may develop later over Guna Yala, Colón, northern Veraguas, Bocas del Toro and the Ngäbe-Buglé region. Brief wind gusts are possible around storms.
On the Pacific side, isolated morning showers are forecast over the Gulf of Chiriquí, southern Veraguas, southern Azuero, eastern Panamá province, Darién and the Gulf of Panama.
During the afternoon and evening, scattered downpours and thunderstorms could affect Panama City and northern, central, western and eastern parts of Panamá province. Additional activity is expected over Darién, southern Azuero, southern Veraguas and Chiriquí.
Temperatures will generally reach between 28°C and 33°C. Minimum temperatures will range from approximately 12°C in elevated areas to 25°C in warmer lowland districts.
Winds should remain light, generally below 10 km/h outside thunderstorms. Maritime conditions are forecast to be favourable, with Caribbean waves near 0.6 metres and Pacific waves around 1.2 metres.
Ultraviolet radiation is expected to reach high or very high levels during the afternoon on both slopes.
