Panama can expect periods of thunderstorms on both the Caribbean and Pacific slopes on Wednesday, September 30, with the heaviest activity concentrated in maritime areas, eastern Panama and mountainous districts.

The Instituto de Meteorología e Hidrología de Panamá issued its first forecast at 1:22 a.m. Forecaster Julissa Rivera predicted isolated but potentially heavy early-morning downpours in Guna Yala, Colón and the Ngäbe-Buglé region.

On the Caribbean slope, storm activity should remain focused on eastern areas during the morning. Moderate to heavy downpours are forecast across mountainous districts during the afternoon, followed by isolated storms between Bocas del Toro and northern Veraguas at night.

On the Pacific side, early activity will mainly affect offshore waters and Darién, with isolated rain possible around Panama City, Panamá Oeste, Los Santos, southern Veraguas and coastal Chiriquí. More widespread afternoon thunderstorms are expected in Chiriquí, the central provinces, mountainous Panamá Oeste and northern Panamá province. Isolated storms may develop elsewhere.

Maximum temperatures should range from 28°C to 33°C across most of Panama and from 20°C to 24°C in the Central Mountain Range. Overnight lows may fall to between 13°C and 18°C in elevated areas and between 22°C and 27°C elsewhere.

UV radiation is forecast to reach high to extreme levels, with maximum indices between 6 and 11\. Pacific winds could reach 35 km/h later in the day, while thunderstorms may produce stronger localized gusts.

IMHPA also notes that soils remain highly saturated in western Panama. No separate weather warning or watch was active when the morning forecast was published.
