Scattered thunderstorms are expected across Panama on September 24, with the strongest afternoon activity forecast for Chiriquí, central Veraguas and mountainous areas of the Pacific slope.
The Instituto de Meteorología e Hidrología de Panamá issued its first daily forecast at 12:24 a.m. Forecaster Julissa Rivera expects early storms over Caribbean and Pacific waters, with some rain moving inland during the morning.
On the Caribbean slope, showers and thunderstorms may reach Guna Yala, Colón and northern Veraguas before isolated storms develop over mountainous areas during the afternoon. Some evening rain remains possible in Guna Yala.
Pacific coastal areas from Darién to Los Santos may receive isolated morning rain. During the afternoon, moderate to heavy thunderstorms are forecast for Chiriquí and central Veraguas. Strong but more isolated storms could also affect other Pacific areas, particularly near the mountains.
Evening storms may continue over the Gulf of Chiriquí, with isolated rain in Chiriquí, Veraguas and Coclé.
Temperatures should reach between 28°C and 32°C across most of Panama. In the Central Mountain Range, maximum temperatures will remain between 20°C and 24°C, with overnight lows of 12°C to 16°C.
IMHPA warned that thunderstorms may produce strong local wind gusts, especially over coastal waters. Soils remain highly saturated in Chiriquí, central Veraguas and eastern Panamá province. The forecast is an ordinary daily bulletin, not a separate nationwide weather warning.
UV levels are expected to range from high to extreme, with maximum readings between 7 and 11.
