Panama’s National Theatre Festival is bringing five locally produced works and four training programmes to Ciudad de las Artes, offering audiences a concentrated look at the country’s contemporary performing-arts scene.

The selected plays will be presented at the Áurea “Baby” Torrijos Theatre through October 11\. The Ministry of Culture is expected to publish individual performance times through its official social-media channels.

A jury comprising Panamanian theatre specialists Dayra Torres, Edgar Soberón Torchia and Ángel Gutiérrez evaluated 31 proposals before selecting the five productions.

The highest-scoring work was *Dilanii*, a community-based production about the Guna Revolution of 1925\. *Mi Negra*, from the Negra y Chola artistic collective, explores pain, memory and liberation.

The programme also includes *Violento*, a production by Tres Escena examining control, isolation, manipulation and resistance. The comedy *El Candidato* satirizes politics, social media and the construction of public power, while *El Secuestro* uses a moment of conflict to examine uncertainty, loss, survival and difficult choices.

Four workshops complement the stage programme. Their subjects include a census of theatre professionals, neutral-mask technique, theatre accessibility for deaf audiences and community theatre as a vehicle for preserving Guna historical memory.

Manuel Paz, theatre coordinator at the Ministry of Culture’s National Arts Directorate, said the festival is intended to support creation, research, professional training and the circulation of Panamanian productions.

MiCultura also wants to build a portfolio of national works that can be considered when opportunities arise at festivals and performing-arts markets abroad. Officials are examining ways to take future productions beyond Panama City and into communities elsewhere in the country, although no touring programme has yet been confirmed.

Ticket or admission information was not specified in the published announcement. Visitors should confirm schedules and access details through MiCultura before attending.
