Music, traditional dress and international food will share Panama City’s historic quarter on Sunday, October 25, as Casco Peatonal combines its cultural programme with a collection for families affected by the October 9 earthquake.
The municipality’s “Casco Peatonal con Propósito” programme spreads activities across plazas, markets and cultural spaces, with events beginning at 10 a.m. and continuing into the evening.
Mercado San Felipe Neri will receive donations from noon to 5 p.m. Requested items include nappies, baby supplies, non-perishable food, bottled water, personal-hygiene products and cleaning materials.
The market will also host “Sabores del Mundo.” Its separately published programme lists food and cultural presentations representing Argentina, Bolivia, Colombia, Costa Rica, Honduras and Panama from 1–5 p.m. Dishes will be available for sale.
In the historic quarter, Plaza Bolívar’s programme runs from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., featuring polleras, traditional clothing, music and local vendors. Plaza Catedral will host Afro-Caribbean and Brazilian rhythms from noon to 6 p.m.
Plaza Herrera’s schedule begins at 10 a.m., with folk ensembles, an eighties-inspired fashion presentation and the municipal Orquesta Son Cultura.
Visitors interested in wildlife can find the second birdwatching-tourism and ornithology gathering at the Compañía de Jesús, scheduled from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
The programme also extends beyond the historic quarter. “Calidonia Vive,” a cultural and musical event on Calle 30 Este, is scheduled from 1–6 p.m.
The municipality published the main programme on October 23. Activities are scheduled across several locations, so visitors should check the hours for their chosen stop.
