Panamanian emergency services responded to a boat fire in the Bay of Panama near Isla Perico during the night of September 21.
The National Aeronaval Service, known as SENAN, said the emergency was reported through its 108 hotline. The burning vessel was located approximately one mile from the Subteniente Rigoberto Castillo Naval Shipyard on Isla Perico, part of the Amador Causeway area.
SENAN deployed the patrol boat P-204 and maritime unit BPC-3626 to assist with the operation. Firefighters also responded, while the Panama Canal Authority and Panama Maritime Authority participated in the coordinated emergency effort.
Photographs and video shared by authorities showed flames and a large column of smoke rising from the vessel while response boats operated nearby.
Initial reports did not identify the vessel, although separate social-media coverage referred to it as the yacht Aventura. Authorities had not officially confirmed its name, type, ownership or the number of people who may have been aboard when the fire began.
No injuries or missing persons had been reported as of the first official updates. The cause of the fire also remained unknown.
Authorities had not confirmed whether the vessel remained afloat after the incident or whether fuel or other pollutants entered the surrounding water. The Maritime Authority’s involvement is expected to include determining the vessel’s status and addressing any navigation or environmental risks.
The response was still described as an active fire-control operation when SENAN issued its initial statements. Further information is expected once the fire is fully extinguished and officials can inspect the vessel.
